Cheers to our European Customers!!
Most recently D'Arcy has returned from shaping trips which brought him to the shores of Italy and Portugal. Even more interesting is the amount of enquiries we receive from that region and its surrounds. Here is a short video of D'Arc talking about the bomb model which he adjusted specifically for the small, weak mushy waves of the Med.

Customer feedback! Cheers Sean!
I've searched for the wolves ... ... on the 6"2' snub fish between North Wall Ballina and Iluka over the past few days. Its initiation was Sat a.m. in offshore 2-3 footers working mechanically left and right across the long sandbank at North Wall. Of course it paddled into just about anything but it also felt tight and fast top to bottom. Its next sesh was in 4-5 cross shore rising swell breaking wide out the back at Iluka. This is where its paddle power gave me much needed energy reserves to make the most of the ungroomed shifting peaks and intense paddling. My wave count was well up. The deck got a little bit skimmy and slidey on the bottom turn in this stuff (as you'd expect) and I need to learn to commit my weight harder on the rail into key turns. But on the flipside it linked crumbling foamy sections with ease making for long rides with uninterrupted speed flow and efficient paddling back out. I'm hoping it gets me up and running in smaller 1-2 footers. Hopefully at 6"2' it's still compact enough for summer junk swells? I feel really positive about this board and the possibilities it will open up for my surfing. It will complement my Darcy 6"4' (which I'll ride on the more vertical days at TOS etc) really well. Cheers! Sean

Froggies with some fresh powder...Not Many spots were lining up nicely as it was Jet Skis only! Burleigh was too bumpy, Snapper was breaking wide, Kirra too windy. The only spot lining up to par was The Alley.

Best wave ridden by a Female surfer in Australia EVER?!
Yesterday May 13, was by far the biggest and best day at "Ours" so far this year. It was flawless. The swell was in the 6-8ft range out of the SSE and winds were light offshore westerly all day. The sun was shining and the water was an unseasonably warm 21 degrees.Layne ventured out to the notoriously gnarly reef break full of confidence and ready to charge.
Charge she did, and how!
Take a good look at photographer Billy Morris's sequence and I don't think you will disagree.
The unwritten law at "Ours" is you have to paddle into a few waves and take off on some solid slabs before you earn the right to be towed into a set.
Layne impressed incredibly on her first paddle in waves, and before you know it Bra Boy Richie Vass offered to tow her into this hectic below sea level bomb.
The rest is history.
Layne had a late night on Tuesday when she was named co winner with Sarah Murdoch at The annual Women In Style awards evening hosted by InStyle magazine. Layne said, “I literally swapped my Alex Perry gown for a wetsuit at dawn.” She said, “I was on stage with the Bra queen Sarah Murdoch late on Tuesday night, and then I was out charging “Ours” with the Bra Boys at dawn.”
"It was an incredible wave. Definetely my best ever in Australia. I have had some comparable tubes at Honolua Bay, but “Ours” is so intense."
"The Bra Boys were so full of encouragement. I had an insane day."
Special thanks to Billy Morris for getting us the land sequence after a long day shooting, and Tim Bonython for sending us the water frame grabs at 1.00am. Legends lads. Legend effort Layne. We will be posting some epic photos of the Bra Boys and a few other chargers pulling into Solander slabs in the coming days.

D'Arcy always said....
Ever since Kelly showed up at the Pipemasters last year riding a 5'9 "Deep Six" model, we have been asked over and over again to replicate that same design. When asked to build this particular board, D'Arcy replies "A good surfer can ride a door" which he has been saying since shaping for Martin "Pottz" Potter back in the day. Above is photographic evidence that yes, Slater can ride anything. To sum it all up, just cause Kelly is riding a "deep six" doesn't necessarily equate to average surfers being able to ride it. If your a good surfer you can ride anything. Here at D'Arcy surfboards we pride ourselves on shaping the average surfer a board which will be better than their last, in turn improving their level of surfing.
For more on Slater riding doors visit aspworldtour.com for a link to the Sports Illustrated article on the King.
Personally we would like to see Kelly bring his new magic carpet to Teahupoo to see whether or not the rails on that door will hold in pumping lefthand barrels.
Billabong Pro Teauhpoo starts in a few days, be sure to catch it live...

The swell continues....
In other News, the big D is heading overseas next week to the beautiful country of Italy. The word of D'Arcy's reputation for quality and ethics is generating interest worldwide! The Italian surfboard market is seen as highly sophisticated and demanding and it is a huge honor when your brand is percieved as a market leader by their consumers. D'Arcy will be shaping boards just outside of Rome for his Italian customers through Foambox distribution. If you live near Italy, get in contact with foambox to get your hands on a new D'Arcy board!

Fantasy Friday Shots from Coastalwatch.com
The surf has been well into the 4ft range for most of this time. Over the past weekend the swell grew even more to the 6ft+ range and most spots were maxing out, sweep was unbearable and Jet-Skis littered most spots with cowboys driving them without a clue or a care for the real men who were paddling. Nevertheless, this has been an extraordinary swell event, especially given our forgettable summer. I could begin to try and explain where the swell has come from but there has been that much activity in our swell window it doesnt matter. There is swell.
Team rider Asher Pacey post-stall
There was even some lefts to be had, The WreckSo stay tuned for more updates as the swell is forecast to hit the 8-10ft range this arvo!
Thanks for dropping in.

The forecast looks promising with a rise in swell energy however NE winds will not be favorable for the points... Early morning conditions will be the go, hopefully the swell gets big enough to make it all the way down to Kirra.

Friday the 13th!
On Saturday, St. Valentines day the carpark at the Superbank was filled with angry girlfriends who had their romantic plans ruined by their boyfriends who were cheating on them with KIRRA. The swell picked up once again, pushing 6 ft on the sets winds were SE-SW and they groomed the points to perfection. The swell was big enough to sort out the men from the boys thus keeping the population factor to a minimum.
Finally on Sunday the swell cleaned up even more with favorable wind conditions... with a decrease in size, most of the points were maxed out with crowds.

Save Kirra!
"After 8 years of pumping and 10 million cubic metres of sand for Gold Coast beaches only 1/8 moves north, the rest has lodged itself at Coolangatta and more so now at Kirra Beach. The sand by-pass operation began in 2001 and while it created the super bank at Snapper Rocks it wiped out Kirra and hasn't performed since the massive supply of sand to the southern end of the gold coast, the beach now resembles the Sahara Desert and has turned off beach goers. The outside reefs have been covered over and the point break is non-existent. 2002 was the last year that Kirra Point was able to host a pro-surfing event."-coastalwatch.com
Have a go at what Kirra used to look like and you will understand why there is need to save it!

Shut the Gate on 2008! 2009 is going be fine!
Thanks for sticking with us through the holiday season! It was a great one! Alot has happened since our last post, have no fear 2009 is here!
The boys are back in the factory producing our customers the best surfboards available to the industry and our team riders are busy winning contests! Team riders Asher Pacey and Clancy Dawson were busy ringing in the new year with a bang, taking out the Jim Beam Surftag Teams Challenge... Alongside Mick Fanning, Asher and Clancy represented the Kirra Surfriders club this contest. The Surftag series is not your average local club contest... In this series, you will be surfing against current and ex WCT competitors!
"It was an emphatic victory for Kirra who held on until the dying minutes and lying just 0.9 points behind the heat leaders Snapper Rocks B, sealing their victory on the final wave of the heat to win the series and go into the National Finals in Sydney as the Queensland Champions."-global surftag.com
"We're ecstatic with our win here today," said Clancy Dawson, Kirra's second highest scorer behind Fanning. "Snapper has so many good surfers and to beat them with two of their teams in the Final is just huge for us." -Clancy
Good On Ya Boys! Congrats on the victory, sounds like your boards are going great!
In other news, we finally got a swell here on the coast with the most! it has been a good six weeks battling with NE winds and locally generated windswell. We had been blessed with a 3-4ft SE swell... not so lucky with the holiday crowds though!

Thanks for dropping in! Happy new year! Stay tuned!
In the meantime, here is an old vid from the archives this past Feb. Featuring Asher, Parko, Kerrsy and others surfing some little lover's grinders...

Rider testimonial from the Fly Boardriding website...
Local ripper, Jimmy Holburn just got back from camping in Indo for the last 3 and a bit months. He managed to score the swell of the season at Deserts @ 8 - 10".
" Thank god for my D'Arcy that I picked up last christmas before heading to the west coast for a stint of desert madness. I have had a few other really expensive boards like firewires in the meantime, but none of them have cut it like the D'Arcy for performance and quality- I would have been lost with out my D'Arcy!!"
Jimmy will be easy for you to spot in the water - he will be the one sporting the nice leather skin suit :)
Thanks Jimmy keep ripping! and a big thank you to Jon and Sheree at Fly!

FLY Boardriding!!!
Check out what they had to say about D'Arcy....
"Unless you live under a rock and haven't sussed out any surf media in the last 12 months, you will know this man...
D'Arcy is the real deal - full stop!!
Global environmental leader, integrity in spades, quality fanatic, super passionate, killer surfer and totally committed to making the best boards in the universe.
Oh and we almost forgot...one of the finest shapers and surf industry innovators currently walking the earth!!!
It's no accident that some of the finest competitive world title holders and free surfers to ever wax a board are frequent drop in's at his new, worlds best practice, environmentally freindly factory at Currumbin. Mick Fanning, Layne Beachley, Asher Pacey are just a few of the faces you might run into.
You may even bump into legendary Hawaiian shaper, Wade Tokoro. If you flick through any surf mags over the past 12 months, you will be blown away by the list of sponsored surfers paying to ride Wade's shapes when the waves start to get critical.
Wade entrusts D'Arcy and his fine team to exclusively manufacture his boards in the southern hemisphere. So next time your heading off to some solid waves, why not suss out a new Tokoro from Fly - we think you will be very impressed.
From guys to girls, first timers to world champ - D'Arcy has a range of fine 100% hand made Australian boards to give you the ride of your life.
Just scope out some lucky surfer who has a D'Arcy in the quiver. You will not hear the end of how good they are.
Local ripper and Fly team rider, Joe McGregor told us his latest D'Arcy is the best board he has ridden at Seaford when it's on in the last 15 years..defintely his words...not ours, but we can easily believe it!
D'Arcy surfboards =
1. no compromise in quality regardless of the cost

Good Luck Layne!
D'Arcy Team Rider 7X ASP Womens World Champ is in Peru at the moment, Layne has made it into the Quarter finals where she will face Good friend and competitor Samantha Cornish. We wish her luck in Peru and for the final leg of the tour where she will be pushing for an unprecedented 8th world title. Currently 3rd in the rankings, Layne still has a great shot at winning however she will have to take down Steph Gilmore and Sofia Mulanovich to take the championship.
Also if you haven't heard, Layne has finally released stunning autobiography which chronicles the ups and downs of her life, and how she overcame these trials and tribulations to become the greatest Woman surfer to this day."Layne Beachley's story is a testimony to the power of self-belief. It is about the skinny little girl they called 'Gidget' who overcame a king tide of obstacles, from chronic fatigue and depression to debilitating injury and family tragedy, to become an icon in the male-dominated world of competitive surfing. Winner of a record seven women's world championships, she also blazed trails in the mountainous waves of Hawaii's outer reefs, earning respect where it mattered most - in the water.
Beneath the surface of the happy, positive public persona is a story of loss, redemption and the search for identity, revealing the intimate details of how Layne and her birth mother, Maggie, found each other twenty-seven years after her birth, the highs and many lows on their quest for reconciliation and the dark secret of Maggie's past. It is also a love story, describing how Layne fell in and out of love with Hawaiian big-wave rider Ken Bradshaw and found true happiness with INXS rock star Kirk Pengilly.
Based on extensive interviews with more than thirty central figures, including classmates, friends, family and many of the biggest names in surfing, and written by award-winning journalist Michael Gordon, Layne Beachley: Beneath the Waves is powerful, poignant, moving and unforgettable." Asher Pacey video!
Here is a short video of team rider Asher Pacey shot during 2004-2006 by Chad Towersey Enjoy!
Introducing.... our newest board model!
Model: HipstarDimensions: 4’11” – 6’6”
Ideal conditions:1-4ft choppy to perfect
Ability level- Low intermediate to advanced
Description: The all rounder for 1-5 feet, This board goes off in small to medium waves. D'Arcy is a huge advocate of people riding the right boards, since the majority of surfers are riding boards which are too thin and too narrow. The slightly wider outline and fuller foil originates from Martin Potter’s early nineties power surfing. This model feels sweet under the feet, with lots extra speed for power surfing. The pronounced Hip in the outline also allows for tight radius snaps when needed. This board will perform as good as you can.
Order: 1-3 inches shorter and ½ inch wider, 1/8 - 1/4 inch thicker
Fins: FCS Quad or Thruster
Shaper Quote: After undergoing extensive research and development, this is what I am riding at the moment. This board will take you "Back to the Future”
Thanks for stooping by and make sure to get your orders in soon, Summer is nearly here and the rush has begun!

Ganadu Art Creations!
Vincenzo Ganadu and his mates dropped in the factory today. Vincenzo is an amazing artist from Italy who specializes in Surf, Classic, and all other types of art which inspires him to create. Here is D'Arcy with Vincenzo, Giovanni, a famous Italian pizza chef now living on the Gold Coast, and one of Sardinia's most respected surfers. Vincenzo presenting D'Arcy with some limited edition prints
"Vincenzo Ganadu inserts the human figure on these backgrounds using short strokes, creating a vivid emotion, which is a determining factor. The incisive gesture of the man, balancing on his surf board in the middle of the waves, animates and moves the observer because of the rapid touch of the colours made by the brush, without contour lines."
"His research is not only psychological or formal, but is a spontarneous souce of his artistic personality: tension, explosions, force of instant vitality and burning dynamic felicity are strong characteristics of his works."
How amazing is the style of this Art?! one word...AwesomeLike what you see? check out Vincenzo's website GanaduCreations.com to check out his other Art and projects.

Congratulations Eden!
Happy Customer!
Even better still, is the smile on a young grommets face when the set their eyes and hands on their new board. There is something about a grom getting a board, knowing that they are stoked about surfing and having fun, not hassling or jockeying/dropping in or having an ego in the water. For example, here is 10 year old Jake Danielsen. Jake is happy to splash around in the shore break sometimes not catching a wave at all, catching waves is just a bonus. It seems that alot of people today including grommets, are losing the essence and the "soul" of surfing. What are we teaching the future of surfing?
10 y/o Jake Danielsen with his new craft
So remember not to drop in! The future of surfing is at risk!

Rider Contributions/Testimonials...
"I've been riding Darcy's for the last 8 months. I was looking for a good all around board, from beach break to long points. The shape is insane, goes well in 2 foot beach break in Florida, and holds rail transitions in long point breaks. Here are a couple shots of a recent trip to El Salvador. Keep up the good work and I'll be placing my next order soon!"-Putnam

The Bomb!
Here is the newest design coming out of the D'Arcy Factory... dubbed, the BomB... Pictured is a 5’5 X 20 ¼ X 2 3/8Pronunciation:\ˈbäm\
Function:noun
Etymology:French bombe, from Italian bomba, probably from Latin bombus deep hollow sound, from Greek bombos, of imitative origin
Date:1684
Definition: a device that generates and releases its energy very rapidly.
Slang: He bombed that wave.
- Extremely fast top speed, drivey and smooth yet incredibly snappy. Extra volume means easy paddling while adding stability
- Thruster or Quad, hip rounded square or diamond tail
- Single to deep double concave with a V exit off the tail
- Very wide and round 1980s style outline originating from working with world champion Martin Potter.
- Ride the bomb 4-5 inches shorter and 2 inches wider than your usual dimensions.
We have had heaps of riders putting this design through its paces and all have come back with excellent feedback. These boards are being ridden everywhere from South Straddie to Snapper on waves which measure one foot!
Put the FUN back in to your surfing! With the proper boards, you can surf anything! Only one foot and onshore? Go BomB it!
